I have worked in the health care field for 34 years. My passion for holistic health and spiritual well-being has resulted in a diverse blend of work and educational experiences, and the development of a unique perspective on the nature of health, healing and well-being.

Education & Experience

I began my career as a Registered Nurse, graduating from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada in 1984. For the next 20 years, I worked in diverse settings and areas of the country including several First Nation communities in western and northern Canada. It was this latter experience that introduced me to indigenous spirituality. This captivated and inspired me to explore spiritual practices and their influence on health and well-being. In 2007 I returned to school to study the “spiritual and transcendent dimensions of human experience” (ITP). In 2009, I obtained my degree in Transpersonal Studies from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) - a branch of Sofia University located in Palo Alto, California. In 2010, I obtained additional training and certification in Transformational Coaching from Dr. Rosie Kuhn at ITP. This method of inner exploration is the cornerstone of my current coaching practice. A unique compilation of spiritual, energetic, somatic, and Jungian approaches to healing augment my work; this includes the Hakomi Method - a mindfulness-based mind-body psychotherapy. Training in this method began in 2017 and will continue through 2018 and 2019. For more information on how Hakomi is integrated into my practice, see Transformational Coaching.

My educational pursuits at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology also resulted in the development and delivery of an innovative university/college level course in Shadow Work. This area of specialization is an integral component of my work and my understanding of personal healing and growth. For details on this course, see Introduction to Shadow Work.

In 2009, I obtained my Reiki Master certification after a 10-year apprenticeship in this healing art. I followed this with an exploration of ceremonial practices. In 2011, I graduated from the Celebrant Foundation and Institute as a Certified Life-Cycle® Celebrant. My area of specialization focuses on Croning or Wise Woman Ceremonies. Knowledge of ceremony augments my healing practice as I work to introduce the restorative element of ritual into the lives of those I serve.

Upon completion of my studies, I successfully launched IN-SIGHT Consulting in the city of Yellowknife, NT. My practice now operates out of Kingston, Ontario where I reside with my family. It features Transformational Coaching, Reiki Services, Ceremony & Ritual, as well as Bio-psycho-spiritual Education.

Beyond IN-SIGHT Consulting

I am an Adjunct Faculty member at Queen’s University, School of Nursing in Kingston, Ontario. My work focuses on mental health education and community-based practice.

"Denise has taught me to reframe the overwhelming and untouchable aspects of my life into workable and honourable parts of a journey. My life is no longer based on pure survival and the pursuit of money as a means to survive. It is now a true journey, awakening joy and curiosities I had never before thought I could embrace."
